The flora and fauna have evolved naturally undisturbed for millions of years and it is meticulously and jealously guarded as it is the last remaining pristine rainforest.

Taman Negara encompasses 3 States:

  3. Terengganu (853 sq km).

The park is a famous ecotourism destination due to its geological and biological attractions. Gunung Tahan - the highest Mountain in Malaysia - can be accessed through Kuala Tahan or Merapoh. Taman Negara is the home of some rare animals like the Indochina Tiger, crab-eating macaques, Sumatran Rhinoceros, Red Jungle Fowl, Malayan Gaur and Asian Elephants. The rare Malayan Peacock, Pheasant, and the Malaysian Mahseer (Ikan Kelah in Malay) - a type of game fish are protected species, while the tapir is occasionally sighted.

Taman Negara is also home of Malaysia's Indigenous People - the Batek Tribe who live in clusters of 20 -30 for effective food management. Their shelter is made of palm leaves, bamboo and etc. The Ladies shy away, the Children smile - a warm and naive smile, and the Men disappear for a while only to reappear with the hunting tools to illustrate their firemaking skills and use of the blowpipe for hunting. They hunt monkeys, flying foxes, squirrels, fishes and turtles are their delicacy.
